He Was There

The future looms ahead of me
I wonder what I'll find
Until I hear a still, small voice
That prompts me, "Look behind."

I look and see the valley low
From which I shortly came.
Its grasses and its rivers say,
"He was always the same."

Behind the valley lies the sand
The desert, hot and dry.
Upon its cactus written:
"I hear before you cry."

The little hills beyond them lie
Mounts of joyous song.
Their gentle slopes so sweetly call,
"In weakness, He is strong."

The murky swamp, the forests dim,
With quicksand, paths unsure.
The frogs and snakes now chirp and croak
"With Christ, you were secure!"

The open grassy flatland
Where lions stalked their prey.
Those lions now roar peacefully;
God shut their mouths that day.

The lake of hope, love's waterfall,
The stream of grace, so free.
All gently tell me of His Words:
"I'll always walk with Thee."

The mountains on horizon's past
Against a sky of blue
Remind me of His faithfulness
For He was ever true.

I turn again to look ahead
To empty, steep inclines.
Dark thunderclouds may loom above,
But I will start to climb.

I'll keep my eyes upon the peaks
And cast on Him my care.
For one day soon as I look back
They'll whisper, "He was there."

What is Man to You?

Man.
O Lord,
So small
To You.
What
Is he compared to the heavens?
And the moon and the stars to You?
And yet,
You sent
Your son
To walk
This earth
And know
The life
Of man
To live
To die
To rise
To gain
For me?
Unto Your name be glory forevermore.
Amen.

One of the Ten

for John-Mark, whose testimony inspired me

Sodom and Gomorrah were under attack
To the Lord Abraham cried,
"If you find ten men in the wickedness
Will you save the city alive?"

The Lord answered back, "I will" and yet,
Not ten of the righteous were found.
No one was living for Jehovah's name
So the city burned to the ground.

My countryland is under attack
For sin and pride abound.
But here, as in Sodom, the Lord's eyes search
To see if the righteous be found.

The Lord calls, "Be of good courage and strength
And boldly for me take a stand.
For if there are people that live by my Word
Then I will heal your land."

I struggle to put away my pride--
The "what will they think of me?"
My own desires of flesh I lay
At the foot of Calvary

And say to the Lord, "You, I obey.
I'll stand for the truth of Your word.
I'll give You all and take Your hope
To those who've never heard."

My countryland is under attack
For many laugh at sin.
But I've made my choice; what will you do?
Will you be one of the ten?

He is Yet Alive!

He is Yet Alive!

May 11, 2008

Within a shadowed corner myst’ry lay

As ruffled folds of fabric laid therein.

What happened on the morning of that day?

Where was the body of the dead within?

I sighed and stared into the darkened room.

Who could’ve done this evil to my friend?

Why had they thus removed Him from His tomb?

Why had they killed Him? He had done no sin.

I thought back of Him and His love for me,

His perfect heart, His grace beyond compare,

His death upon the cross of Calvary,

And now this myst’ry – Jesus wasn’t here.

Behind me then a gentle voice did chide:

“Why fear ye? Joy! for I am yet alive!”

I Serve the One Whose Flag I Bear

I Serve the One Whose Flag I Bear

May 10, 2008

I serve the One whose flag I bear

The King of Hosts is He.

Though some would have me fear, despair,

My Lord shall stand by me.

He giveth me the strength to stand

Yea, even more to fight.

Thou Lust be on my left hand

And Pride be on my right.

I serve the One whose flag I hold,

My Captain – He will win.

And He will cause my soul be bold

To triumph over sin.

Though Satan and His host defy

The power of His name.

Still I will unto Jesus cry,

Yea, He who overcame.

I serve the One whose flag I raise

While pressing farther on.

Through danger, trouble, toilsome ways

Here by His grace I’ve come.

Yea, thus as I still breathe and live

And serve and shout and sing,

May Jesus wear the crown. I give

All glory to my King!

Leave impacted for Thee.

When trouble seeks to steal

My joy. By Thee compassed about

Thy presence strong I feel.

Thou sayst to me: "Fear thou not;

I am beside to give

My strength, My hope, My song, My grace,

As ye by My WORD live.

I will do great things for thee -

Perfect is My plan.

I will draw near thee in the day

And hold thee in My hand."

Alone in a Different Sense

Alone.
The word doth echo strong
The lie, the Devil’s favorite song.
The only one.
I’m near despair
Doth someone care?
Alone
One bitter tear doth fall.
Alone
My lonely voice doth call.
But hark!
What is that voice I hear?
“Child, I am ever near.”
Rejoice!
My soul doth sing and shout
I am compassed about
By Thee.
O Savoir, Thou art mine
And all of me is Thine:
Heart and soul and mind.
I’m Yours;
I seek Thy will to do
O Lord, I’ll live for You
Alone.

In Six Days

In six days the world was made
From previously void
Expanse, the earth, by God arrayed
Was by our Lord enjoyed.
On day one our Creator spoke
And said: “Let there be light.
Then brightness dark’s chains it broke
Creating day and night.
Waters separated on day two
Our Lord thought it was good.
But God in heaven wasn’t through
So day three dry land stood
Out of the waters. Grass did grow,
Each herb and ev’ry tree
With fruit to yield and seeds to sow
After their kind plentifully.
On day four the stars were seen
Along with sun and moon.
Day five brought some living things –
Birds were flying soon.
Fish were swimming in the sea.
On day six the sheep, the boar,
The lion, snake, and ram.
These all were good; but something more.
Something in God’s image: a man.
On day seven God looked back
Over the sea and the land.
And saw that nothing His plan lacked
For perfect was His plan.

My Mind I Yield to You

O Lord, my mind I yield to You
Your bidding to obey.
May I take captive ev’ry thought
That seeks to go astray.
May lingering thoughts be thoughts of You
And not of falsehoods, sin.
That I replace each wayward thought
With truth, this war to win.
O Lord, from sinful thoughts I flee
And lift my voice in praise.
I will renew my heart and mind
While seeking, Lord, Your face.

I Will Guide Thee with Mine Eye

In times of struggle, deep distress
I – Your Everlasting Rest.
The death arrows shall not come nigh –
I will guide thee with Mine eye.

In times of hurt, stinging pain
Your bleeding heart I will sustain.
I count each tear that you may cry –
I will guide thee with Mine eye.

In times of questions, decisions knock.

When you wonder “when?” or “why?” –
I will guide thee with Mine eye.

Alas for the day!

The coming day is at hand

Four Men

“Lo, I see four men
In the midst of the fire,”
Said King Nebuchadnezer
As he perspired.
“Four men, not three;
What think ye of this?
I think that their God,
The true God He is.
Come hither Shadrach
Step out of the flames.
Meshach, Abedego,
I praise your God’s name.

My kingdom, hear my word:
‘The God of these men;
This God is the Lord.’”

Unknown in known to Thee.
Thus I will trust that you will do
The very best for me.
For Lord, the unknown lies ahead
The path is dark and gray.

And walk by faith, not sight.

I am a Flower Bulb

I am a flower bulb
Awaiting lovely Spring.
Sometimes I want to rush ahead
To see what this may bring.
And yet if I rush ahead
When I think I feel the sun
And bloom. I’ll die
When winter frost doth come.
And so I wait, enjoying
The season that I’m in.
For winter’s season like others
Will come to an end.
I will bloom a flower –
My Creator’s plan.
Yet, how I bloom and when I bloom
And where is in His hand.

Easter Dawn

As it began to dawn upon that day
Three woman met and traveled to a tomb.
And while they pondered His life on the way
Their hearts were burdened with a heavy gloom.

Just days before they’d seen Him, their dear friend,
Healthy, serving God and full of life.
Just three short days; why did He have this end?
O, how they missed Him; their Lord Jesus Christ!

They came upon the tomb wherein He lay
But wait – no body in the tomb remained!
O why had someone taken Him away?
The women’s faces with pure grief were strained.

But then their hearts rejoiced – the angel said:
“He is not here – but risen from the dead!”

Lead me, Lord, in Your perfect plan
‘Till I reach the Promised Land:
Lord, I rejoice for You will know me.

A New Song

For Mrs. Paula...

Thou hast put a new song in my heart
Even praise unto Thy name.
Thou hast taken all my sin away
Removing my guilt and shame.

Chorus:
Thou hast put a new song
In my mouth and heart.
It shall witness of Thee
Tell others I’m Set Apart.

Thou hast put a new song in my heart
Thou hast heard my ev’ry cry.
Thou hast brought me from the miry clay
Thou art ever near, so nigh.

Thou hast put a new song in my heart
Even praises unto Thee.
I will sing of all that Thou hast done
Now and thru eternity!

A House – Remodeler’s Prayer

Dear Lord,
It’s easy to grow weary,
Easier each passing day.
So I’m asking for you Grace –
For Thou art my Strength and Stay
Lord give me grace to handle
Unfinished projects here.
And help me see, with joyfulness,
The progress over there.
Lord give me grace to cope with nails,
Compressors in the den.
When something looms before me
Help me to just begin.
When I’m handed a wet paintbrush
Lord, help me not to whine.
For you will get this project done
In your own perfect time.
Lord, help me not to grumble
When I’m doing something hard
Like hauling torn-out sheetrock
Or cleaning out the yard.
Lord give me strength to lay that floor
Or mud the yonder wall.
And when I insulate the roof
Give grace Lord! I’m not tall!
So much I’ve done and learned in past
But now I press ahead.
And when I want to look to me.
I look to you instead.
And when a family member says:
“Nothing you did today.”
When in fact I know I did.
I’ll forgive them anyway.
Our house is still a piece of work
As it is far from quaint.
But instead of the whole, I’ll focus: today.
Dear Jesus, help me paint!
Amen.

Thou Knowest My Ev’ry Thought

O Lord, Thou knowest my ev’ry thought
Whe’er it is joyful or distraught.
Through all my life I cry to Thee
For this I know: I am safe with Thee.

Chorus:
Each thought, each hope, yea, ev’ry desire.
Refine them in Thy cleansing fire.
That my one hope, desire would be
To think the thoughts that pleasest Thee!

O Lord, Thou knowest my thoughts within
Easy it is to dwell on sin.
Yet thine the love that shall endure.
Thus I fight to keep my thoughts pure.

O Lord, Thou knowest my thoughts each day.
O when I’m tempted – be my Stay!
I need Thee now; my mind renew
My heart I fix and focus eyes on You.

Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

When I was made in secret
Your eyes beheld my form.
Yea, O Lord, You knew my soul.
Before I was born.
With loving hands and patient care
And wisest thoughts you knit
Each organ and each miracle
Of life – each one perfect.
My brain was made to think of You,
My ears to hear Your voice,
My eyes to see Your glory,
My heart to make a choice,
My hands to serve You only,
My mouth to talk of You,
And on throughout my body -
Each part Your will to do.
How perfect, Lord, Your wisdom
So, thus I will praise Thee.
Though all the universe is Thine
Thou choose to design me!
Yea, I will praise You all my days
Proclaiming Your great work.
And tell to others, one by one,
Your creation in birth.

Come and Hear

All ye that fear the Lord Most High.
He is my Rock, to Him I fly.
With praises singing to Him am I.
Now come and hear.

I cried to Him when in great distress
He brought my soul security, rest.
Still by His saving love I am blest.
Now come and hear.

Verily, He doth hear my voice
As I choose to make Him my first choice
And in his presence I now rejoice.
Now come and hear.

He has not turned His ear from my prayer.
Daily on him I cast all my care.
All hath done for me I declare.
Now come and hear.

But with God I fear not them.
When I cry until my Savoir
He will hear my feeble cry.
He puts my tears into a bottle,
He cares for me, the Lord Most High.
The Lord hath kept my feet from falling
With Him I am not afraid -
For upon His truth I’m standing
Sheltered there I’m firm and stayed.

Rejoice, Ye People

Rejoice, ye people in the Lord
And be exceeding glad.
Strong in the Lord and by His grace
With robes of salvation clad.

Rejoice ye people in His works
How marvelous and grand.
He spoke the word and it was done
From dew drop to heav’nly span.

Rejoice ye people when your hart
Is tempted to do wrong.
He giveth grace in temptation
In darkness He gives a song.

Rejoice ye people when the way
Leads through a thorny path.
Through mountains, valleys, stormy gale,
Still on thy Truth stand fast.

Rejoice ye people in all things
Give thanks forevermore.
In faith rejoice and thus so be
Exceeding glad in Thy Lord.

Evidence of a Creator

You see a cake with beauty there
There is a baker somewhere.
You see an airplane flying high.

You see a painting on the wall
There was painter in it all.
You have a pen in your hand.
There was a pen factory, understand.
And yet…
You see a lily, in full bloom
You say, “This happened with a boom.”

How can you think this?

I see a lily blooming fair.
There is a Creator there.
Not only did He make that bloom,
He formed me in my mother’s womb.

The Needful Thing

The day had been long
The supper was cooking
The red beans and rice
Were so yummy looking
But our van needed picking
Up from the shop.
I was needed to drive
So I turned down my pots.
I left them on simmer,
Told a sister to stir.
“Don’t let them burn,”
I firmly told her.
Just fifteen minutes later…
I returned from my trip.
When I walked in the door
With a bang the smell hit.
Burnt! Oh, fly quickly!
Run, quickly run!
I’m afraid that at that point
Not much could be done.
I quickly changed pots
Tried to save what I could
But with sinking heart realized
Supper would not be good.
As I cleaned up my mess
I wore a big frown.
How I wished that my sister
Wasn’t clowning around!
She should’ve watched it!
My frustration grew.
Then the Lord showed me something
I want to show you.
Noah ran in the kitchen
Gave a big hug to me.
I, despite my frustration,
Lifted him up to see.
“Whata ya cookin’?” he said,
Questioning eyes upturned.
And suddenly, it mattered not
That supper was burned.
For there in that moment
The Father said, “This,
Child, this is needful
When life is amiss.
It’s not about dinner
You spent your time making
It’s about those who sit
At your table partaking.
Child, this is needful,
And now is the time.”
So there with burnt supper
I made this resign.
That even when someone
Else burns my food.
I will try to respond
In a Christ-like mood.
For this thing is needful,
Yea, this thing will last.
The relationships I’m building
As the days pass.
If I may let me ask
As I close, this of you:
Next time things go wrong,
What will you do?

As I Love Christ

I love thee as I love my Son
Thou art my very own.
I gave my Son to die for thee
That ye might have a home.
I’ve loved thee since before thy birth.
Before time had begun
I’d numbered the hairs on thy head
And knew them, ev’ry one.
I love thee more than tongue can tell
Than human hearts can know.
And just as I have known my Son
I’ve known thy heart also.
My Child, I love thee endlessly –
As endless as the sea.
I love thee as just I love Christ
Thou art special to Me.

My God loves me as He loves Christ;
What wondrous love is this!
What can I give Him in return?
For small are all my gifts.

Though even it is small.
He loves me as He loves His Son!

My Puzzle

Your life is like a million piece puzzle particularly placed by My hand.
Each color is joining to testify that beautiful is My plan.
You tend to see the pieces that lay beside in a pile.
But I see ahead to the finished work and I see the end all the while.
You tend to see the sharp corners, the bends, the jigsaw shape.
I see the puzzle completed and I make no mistakes!
You tend to try several pieces before you get the right one.
I‘ve not picked up the wrong piece once since the world has begun.
You tend to look for edge pieces and with those pieces start.
I always start with the middle; not the outward, but the heart.
You tend to come to a trouble spot you can’t add the pieces, you quit
I see trouble; I add even more. My picture grows from it.
Your life is like a puzzle and one day you will see
How faithful I was in designing your puzzle’s entirety.

By Faith

By faith the heroes of the past have lived,
That faith that trusteth in the saving blood,
That faith that makes us righteous through God’s grace,
That faith that loves the Holy Word of God.

By faith a man named Abel served the Lord
By giving to the Lord his much-loved lamb.
By faith Enoch was translated to Heav’n
So that He wasn’t found by any man.

By faith, yet being warned of things not seen,
One moved with fear, yea, Noah built an ark
And Abraham, by faith, when called to go,
Did into unforeseen country depart.

By faith, Sarah conceived past bearing age
And bore to Abraham the promised son.
Then Isaac, in his turn, by faith did bless
Both of his sons concerning things to come.

By faith, as Jacob died his grandsons blessed.
Likewise, when Joseph died he told his sons
About his bones and of the Promised Land
Instructing those to come what should be done.

By faith, hidden three months was Moses born,
Then stood he for the Lord rather than men.
By faith the harlot Rahab saved the spies
Danger enduring for the sake of them.

By faith, Gideon, Barak, Jephthah too,
Fought battles for the glory of the Lord
By faith, they subdued kingdoms, valiant, strong.
By faith they were saved from the en’mies sword.

By faith at night Samuel hear the Lord call.
By faith David did kill Goliath tall
By faith did Samson do work for the Lord
By faith the walls of Jericho did fall.

By faith today I’ll live and trust in Christ.
For as He was with these, He’ll be with me.
I place my faith in Him and step ahead
Relying on Him ever may I be.

Sure and Steadfast, without fail,
Hope of death, joy of life – Jesus Christ.
Chorus

Chorus:
Jesus – Hope so Sure and Strong
Steadfast through the danger long,
Through the darkness my Sweet Song,
Lord to Thee, alone, I belong.

Thou the Anchor of my soul
Through the sea is in turmoil.
By Thee, I’ll walk Heaven’s soil.
Future Rock, Hold of Past – First and Last.
Chorus

Through the mountains, thou my Guide
Keep me safely by Thy side.
In me, I in Thee, abide.
Joyous Stroll, Peaceful Climb – Thou art Mine!
Chorus

Blotted Out

Once I carried a burden of sin and woe
So despairing I knew I was lost.
Then I found life eternal, the path of joy
At the foot of Mt. Calvary’s cross.
Chorus

Chorus:
“Blotted out,
As a thick cloud,
Your transgressions and all your sin.
My Redeemed One, shout!
You’re forgiven your account
Ev’ry sin has been blotted out!”

When I came to the fountain of Jesus’ blood
He forgave me and now I am free.
Still I hear His voice when I trip or fall
In His love He says to me:
Chorus

In the times of temptation, I fight and strive.
Still I often fall from the way.
Still the words of the Savior, they echo long
As I hear the Savior say:
Chorus

Won’t you come let Him cleanse you from all your sin?
At the cross won’t you with Jesus meet?
Faithful now, as in past times, if you will come
You will hear these words so sweet:
Chorus

Our God is Great and Wise in Heart

Our God is great and wise in heart
His ways past finding out.
He moveth mountains, by His hand
Compasses me about.

Our God is great and wise in heart
He never sleeps or slumbers
His wonders cannot all be named
Nor can they be numbered.

Our God is great and wise in heart
In strength the Mighty One.
Creation joins to sing His praise
He spoke and it was done.

Our God is great and wise in heart,
He makes the sun to shine.
The earth trembles at His command.
To think that He is mine!

I Will Seek

I will seek the Lord my Savior.
He is with me night and day.
He will not forget, forsake me
Close beside me He will stay.
When I am in tribulation
Trouble is upon my heart
Still I hear my Savior calling:
“Seek Me now, so come apart.
Come apart to meet me solely,
Seek My will and heart to do.
If you seek me so, you’ll find me.
Child, I love and care for you.”

Led, Fed, and Sped

Through my life the Lord my God hath led me
All along the way He’s been my Guide.
Through I meet the foes of sin and striving
Still I rest, for God is on my side.
When I cannot see the path before me
Still I hear and answer His sweet call:
“Wait on Me, I’ll give you wings as eagles.
I will lead you, be your All in All.”

Through my life the Lord my God hath fed me
Through the precious pages of His Word.
Thorugh the hours spent in sweet communion
Talking with my Father, Friend, and Lord.
Putting sin and self and flesh behind me
Closer to my God that I might be.
This I seek, yea, this is my delighting,
That He might say: “Child, I’m pleased with thee.”

Through my life the Lord my God hath sped me
As I press on to His higher plain.
For all things are possible through Jesus
As I ask Him and His promise claim.
So in faith I turn my eyes upon Him
He will lead, and fed and sped me on.
For I serve a great and faithful Master.
Through my life I’ll follow Christ, the Son.

Faithful Jesus

Faithful Jesus, guide, direct me
Through the wandering paths of life.
With Thee by me to protect me
I shall need not fear earth’s strife.
Many pathways stretch before me
Which I follow, which I tread?
I am weary, Lord restore me
Feed me with thy Daily Bread.

Faithful Jesus, guide and cheer me
Often weary still I grow.
Yet Thou promised to be near me
Savior, pray, how shall I go?
Though I only see a few feet
Of the pathway that I trod
Trusting Thee, the steps are sure, sweet,
Each one closer to my God.

Opt. Tune: What a Friend We Have in Jesus!

At the Foot of the Cross

At the foot of the cross,
There my retreat
There where I found my Lord
His mercy Sweet.
There found I Heaven’s grace
His presence in that place
There at His feet,
There at His feet.

At the foot of the cross,
There my retreat.
From earth’s great driving wind,
Or scorching heat.
There I find open arms
Safety from all world’s harms
There at His feet
There at His feet.

At the foot of the cross
There my retreat.
There ev’ry morn and night
I Jesus meet.
There I find joy and rest
There I find Heaven’s best
There at His feet,
There at His feet.

Opt. Tune: More Love to Thee

One Word of Thine

One word of Thine can calm my fearing soul,
Thou whisperest “Peace”; I cannot be dismayed.
For Thine Assurance over me still rolls
And on Thy Rock I am secure and stayed.
One word of Thine can calm each doubt and fear,
Thou whisperest “Peace”; I know that Thou art near.

One word of Thine can bring my wand’ring heart
Back to the fold where Thou in patience waits.
Thou whisperest “Grace”; and sets my soul apart
Thy full forgiveness is the diff’ring trait.
One word of Thine can bring me back to Thee.
Thou whisperest “Grace”; from sin I now am free.

One word of Thine can grasp my shaking hand.
Thou whisperest “Come”; walkest the road with me.
Thy word hath promised perfect is Thy plan
Therefore I follow, holding tight to Thee.
One word of Thine can lead me through the night.
Thou whisperest “Come”; I press toward Heaven’s light.

One word of Thine can lead my unsure feet.
Thou whisperest “Trust”, in faith I step ahead.
Through mountains, valleys, everywhere is sweet
Where Jesus is. By Him my soul is fed.
One word of Thine can guide me all the way
Thou whisperest “Trust”; Thou art my strength and stay.

One word of Thine, nay, six I long to hear:
“Well done, my child!” and these two: “Welcome home!”
So toward the mark I press, I persevere.
That I might bring Thee glory, Thou alone!
One word of Thine I’ll hear with earth behind
When Thou wilt whisper “Joy”; Lord, I am Thine!

Opt. Tune: Be Still My Soul

I’ve Found the Living Water

I searched in vain for something
To satisfy my soul
But in earthly venues found not anything.
‘Til the day I heard the sweetness
That made me spirit whole
‘Twas the melody of Heaven’s Living Spring.

Chorus:
I’ve found the Living Water,
The Fountain of His love.
By the still waters He leads me by and by.
If the valley lies below me,
Or storm clouds reign above,
Still by Jesus Christ my soul is satisfied.

O the melody of the Jesus,
His presence in this place,
O, the ocean depths of His great victory,
O, the floodgates of His mercy,
The wide seas of His grace,
This and more the blessings that He gave to me!

As I press on, persevering,
I lift my voice in song
Singing praises to the Source of strength and life.
I shall never need to wander
Or thirst, or seek, or long,
For I find my All in All in Jesus Christ!
