Fading Mist

Drops of water
Converged
Once upon a time
To make a cloud.
Closely
They interacted:
Laughing and Crying,
Giving and Taking,
Sharing and Bearing
As they passed together
Over the mountains and valleys of fleeting
Moments.

But the winds!
How they continuously
Batter the bonds of
Friendship.
And the sun--
How it relentlessly
Melts the marks of
Comradery.
So the sorrow begins
As the mist is forcefully
Divided.
Not knowing at what time
It may unite again.

Nevertheless,
Time marches on
With uncaring pace and unkind intentions
That slice stubbornly
And scream silently
Through the fading mist.

Little Girl's Feet

Little Girl's Feet
For K.S., a God-sent friend

Little girl's feet:
Dancing, singing, skipping,
Laughing over the meadow.

Unexpectedly...
Pain.
Exposure.
Tears.

Little girl's heart:
Hiding, confused, crying,
Shared with no one.

Meanwhile...
Anger.
Shame.
Fear.

Big girl's mind:
Running, fleeing, covering
Pain with sin.

A friend...
Shares.
Stays
Near.

Big girl's pain:
Spilling, showing, healing
By His hand.

She is
Held
Safe
There.

Big girl's peace:
Growing, resting, reaching
Through the days.

Because of
God.
Her friend.
And prayer.

Little girl's feet:
Dancing, singing, skipping
Like's hind's feet.

Hind's feet
Laughing over the mountains.

Friends Are...

Friends Are…
 December 30, 2004

Friends are blessings in this life,
Treasures, gemstones, rare.
And if we’re wise we’ll cherish them.
As gifts beyond compare.
Friends are beacons in this life,
Lighting up the way.
With laughter, smiles, and teasing.
In bright or cloudy days.
Friends are comfort in this life,
Praying when it’s rough.
Helping you through thick and thin;
By you, when it’s tough.
Friends are “stickers” in this life,
Patient, Caring, Strong.
Revealing gently where we’ve failed,
And how we have been wrong.
Friends are Faithful if they’re true.
Lord, make me loyal, kind.
Lord, help me “stick” to all my friends
As you would stick to Thine.

“A man that hath friends must show himself friendly and there is a friend who sticketh closer than a brother.” (Proverbs 18:24, KJV)
