Nets Equipped

Before reading this poem, take in all the fullness of this verse:
"Now may the God of peace, Who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus-the great Shepherd of the sheep--with the blood of the everlasting covenant, equip you with all that is good to do His will, working in us what is pleasing in His sight through Jesus Christ.
Glory belongs to Him forever and ever. Amen.  (Hebrews 13:20-21)

And note this definition:
Equip: Greek, Katartízō: "to refit, repair, mend that which is broken such as the nets (Matt 4:21; Mark 1:19). Metaphorically of a person in error, to restore, set right (Gal 6:1)... meaning to make a perfect fit, suitable, such as one should be, deficient in no part. Of persons (Luke 6:40; I Cor 1:10; II Cor 13:11; Heb 13:21; I Pet 5:10). 1

And finally, enjoy this quote that together with the verses and definition above inspired this poem:
"God mends our pasts to tend to our futures. Every time we've been broken and then allowed God to repair us, that meaning becomes part of our equipping. All the pain we've endured. All the abuse and misuse. Every betrayal. Every wound. Where God mends, He equips...Don't you see it? If we still have life and breath, God can re-purpose every shred of havoc the Devil wreaks." 2

Nets Equipped

I had a few nets for various uses,
But over the years, they raveled and tore.
Heart break, mistakes, troubles, abuses.
With holes--why then fish? Thus confined to the shore,
I still wanted for more.
I'd cleaned out the bait shop; what else could I do?
Exhausted resources--I'd bought every thread.
I was out of commission--yet under review.
Nothing but failure looming ahead.
My heart filled with dread.
This was my profession, my sole form of living;
Without it--no purpose or feeling worthwhile.
But then I met Him--a kind man so giving.
He looked at me fondly and said with a smile,
"Hand them here, child."
With gentle hands the faulty nets tending,
He gave an offer to repair them to me.
And though I still felt they were much beyond mending,
I nodded a yes and said, "If you please."
He worked faithfully.
The material He used though seemed rather creative,
Especially on holes seemingly beyond repairing.
His methods--so seamless, so interrelated.
So different and beautiful, I found myself staring.
Then He spoke to me, sharing:
"I repaired this with silver to meet someone's needs
And this one with flowers for planting of seeds.
I repaired this with Kleenex® to dry someone's tears
And this one with wavelengths to give you listening ears.
I repaired this with silly string to bring someone laughter
And this one with lumber--help rebuild from disaster.
I repaired this with heart strings to give you compassion
And this one with linen that you're clothed in strength's fashion.
I repaired this with diapers for the next generation
And this one with plane tickets to reach every nation.
I repaired this with darkness so the light is comparable
And this one with nothing for the impossible is repairable."
I have a few nets for various uses.
They all have their patches, an occasional rip.
But each net Christ mends. Opportunity produces
So that every single morning I will launch my ship.
My nets are equipped.

God, Listen! (Psalm 143)

Listen,
My God and my King
To what I am asking!
And after hearing,
Answer me!
Please!

Oh, God do not base
Your help on my merit
For I have none.  But grace
May Your child inherit!

Satan seeks to knock me down
And into a corner back me,
Convincing me light cannot be found
And victory is utterly lacking.

I'm overwhelmed within, without;
My tears have become my friend.
I try to rehearse, even shout,
Of the wonders You did "back then."

I stretch my arms out to mirror my soul
"Oh to know You more," I cry.
As in a desert land, I wearily toil;
My heart is thirsty and dry.

Please answer me, Abba! And fast!
Lest my spirit break or I fall!
Don't turn away or shirk my grasp
For without You, I've nothing at all!

Point out the way that I must walk;
Give me clues to unveil my mystery.
May I not simply talk the talk!
From idols, may You set me free!

Save me from all those who hate
Your will; All my hope I will place
In Your grace and mercy, and I'll wait
In Your presence till You show Your face.

Teach me how to live to please
You only. Let Your truth be shown!
For Your name's sake, all my worries seize
And make Your glory known.

Listen,
My God and my King
To what I am asking!
And after hearing,
Answer me!
I am Your servant.

Thou Hast Given Me Counsel

Thou Hast Given Me Counsel

Based on Psalm 16:7

April 16, 2008

Thou hast given me counsel

In the night,

In the storm,

In the fight.

In the day,

In the sun,

In the peace.

Thou the One

Who giveth counsel,

Perfect, wise.

Thou seeest all

With knowing eyes.

I put my trust

In Thee and ask:

“Lord, give me counsel;

Know my path!”

I Will Guide Thee with Mine Eye

In times of struggle, deep distress
I – Your Everlasting Rest.
The death arrows shall not come nigh –
I will guide thee with Mine eye.

In times of hurt, stinging pain
Your bleeding heart I will sustain.
I count each tear that you may cry –
I will guide thee with Mine eye.

In times of questions, decisions knock.
I – Your Everlasting Rock.
When you wonder “when?” or “why?” –
I will guide thee with Mine eye.

Thou art my Rest

Thou art my rest, within Thee I hide
I will trust Thee to lead me and guide.
Thou knowest me – how wonderfully grand
To know that Thou holdest me in Thy strong hand;
No person can sever me from Thy great love.
This is my rest: my Father above.

Thou Knowest What is in the Dark

Thou knowest what is in the dark
Unknown in known to Thee.
Thus I will trust that you will do
The very best for me.
For Lord, the unknown lies ahead
The path is dark and gray.
I know not what the future holds
Within the coming days.
But this I know: Thou knowest all
The dark is glorious light.
So I will follow, grasp Thy hand
And walk by faith, not sight.

The Lord Upholdeth Me

Though I fall, still I shall stand;
The Lord upholdeth me
By His strong arm and by His hand;
The Lord upholdeth me.
I shall not fear the dark of night,
The dangers of the battle fight,
For on this I’ve fixed my sight:
The Lord upholdeth me.

Decisions

Decisions lurk – what shall I do?
O lord, I put my trust in You.
Decisions wait for my reply.
Help me Jesus, be close by!
Decisions stand in future near
Yet I have no need to fear.
Decisions are made partially
For in all I follow Thee.

Help me, Lord!

Help me Lord and understand
I need someone to know!
To care enough to listen
To love unto me show.

Help me Lord and understand
I greatly need Your grace.
I need to see you caring eyes
And view Your smiling face.

Help me Lord and understand
Others fail to see.
My heart, my struggle. This I ask:
“Dear Savior, help Thou me!”

Thou Art my Helper

Thou art my Helper
In morning’s light.
Thou art my Keeper
In darkest night.
Thou my preserver.
In fiercest storm.
In calmest breezes
Thou art my Lord
Thou art my Guidance
In truth, Lord lead.
Thou art my Helper
The One I need.

When I Was Overwhelmed

When I was overwhelmed within
You cleansed my erring heart from sin.

When I was overwhelmed without,
Your hand encompassed me about.

When I was overwhelmed with fright.
You assured me in darkest night.

When I was overwhelmed some days
You led me in Your perfect way.

As I am overwhelmed right now.
Upon my knees in prayer I bow.

My soul in overwhelment asks:
“O, help me Lord, and know my path!”

This I Know

This I know, that God is for me;
I will put my trust in Him.
Mine enemies are great and many
But with God I fear not them.
When I cry until my Savoir
He will hear my feeble cry.
He puts my tears into a bottle,
He cares for me, the Lord Most High.
The Lord hath kept my feet from falling
With Him I am not afraid -
For upon His truth I’m standing
Sheltered there I’m firm and stayed.
This I know, that God is for me.
He is with me all the way.
I will praise Him for His mercy.
I will follow Him each day.

Christ is the Answer

Christ is the Answer
For the longing heart.
With His sweet love
He fills every part.
Christ is the Answer
For the dying soul.
In grace he died
That man might be whole.
Christ is the Answer
For the searching mind
He is understanding
In wisdom divine.
Christ is the Answer
Yea, none but Christ.
So I will trust Him
Throughout all my life.

There Ariseth Light

There ariseth light in the darkness
To them who walk upright
The Lord shall fix their hearts
By faith walk they, not sight.
Trusting the Lord, they shall not be
Moved from their way.
Fearing not men or tidings
Of the evil day.
There ariseth light in the darkness
Gracious, compassionate, he.
The light in the darkness is Jesus,
And He shall walk with me.
